Fashion Advice: Anniversary attire

Every once in a fashionable, midnight-blue moon, I get style questions from my loyal and uber-chic readers. Here's a question I received recently:

Dear TFS,

Saturday is my 11th wedding anniversary. We have plans for the evening, but we are also going to a nice lunch. I need fashion advice. I have two new dresses from Anthropoligie. Click the links for pictures so you can see what they look like. The forecast for Saturday is 80 and sunny.

Thanks,
Parlene

Hi Parlene,

Thanks so much for your email. I'm happy to help.

Personally, I love Dress #1 due to it's simplicity and versatility. You'll get tons of wear out of this chic frock more than just a one-time evening out. What's great about this wrap-style "Lucielle Ball" dress is that it transitions easily from day to night (you mentioned you'd be having lunch but go into the evening) and you can create many different looks just by the accessories you add.

I did a little digging, and it turns out that the traditional gift for an 11th wedding anniversary is steel. While I don't recommend wearing nuts and bolts, I do recommend rocking some killer jewelry that is hardware inspired to get the look. The "modern" gift for the 11th year is fashion jewelry, which would look stunning with this dress. Kenneth Jay Lane makes some fab dazzling jewelry that would be great choices. Add some simple earrings, chunky bracelets and a cocktail ring and you're good to go!

I'd wear this dress with either a pair of pumps (leopard print would be stellar) or a pair of simple peep toes.

If you're doning lots of jewelry, keep hair simple in a side swept bun.

I hope this helps and gives you some ideas to work with. I'm confident that whatever you wear will look amazing on you!

Stay stylish,

xo.

hmm, i like both dresses, but if you go with Dress #1 you're going to have to bring it up. like deanna says, cute jewelry and pumps.

i like the 11th anniversary theme deanna suggested. if you don't find any hardware inspired jewelry, look for steel-colored jewelry. maybe darker, more vintage looking silver.

as for shoes, you can look for a steel-colored or inspired pump.

happy anniversary and have fun!!!

Wow amazing advice! The links didn't work for me, so I have no idea what either dress looks like - don't worry, though, you're at the Fashion Source: you're in safe hands. :)
