There’s lots of buzz about Gossip Girl, the new CW show about the lives of rich kids, or more importantly, their drama-filled love lives. While the plot itself seems a bit recycled, the real hype is not in what the characters say or do, but what they’re wearing while they do or say it.
People are already comparing Gossip’s wardrobe styling to that of Sex and the City (the same stylists who dressed SJP and her posse are now dressing the young, rich and beautiful characters on Gossip Girl).
While I’m more than a little hesitant to buy in to the view that the wardrobe on the new show will be equally (if not more) fabulous and trendsetting than that of Sex and the City, there is definitely something to be said for this latest effort. Geek chic is in full effect for the cast of the show – most evident in the sherbet- hued clothing on the guys - a plethora of pink polo’s and khaki trousers, Ralph Lauren sweaters, bowties and oxfords. It’s a welcome change to see young guys decked out in clothing that is smart and sharp, instead of the standard uniform of tired graphic tees and True Religions. Clad in plaid trench coats, pearl necklaces and toting oversized designer bags, the girls on the show are by far setting the major fashion trends. A mix of prep and contemporary, the stylists have succeeded in capturing the essence of the young and rich - an uber-traditional Burberyy headband contrasts with trends-of-the-moment like skinny jeans and ballet flats. Schoolgirl uniforms get hip with a loose fitting tie, knee high boots and dangling pendent. My gossip of the day?? Keep your eye close on this show for more trendsetting fashions...

The Fashion Source is your go-to, one-stop-shop (no pun intended), for all things fashion. Our mission is to define the true meaning of life, how to achieve world peace, and what shoes to wear with that new pencil skirt...ok, maybe we're reaching a bit too high...we're overachievers - it can't be helped. But we can definitely figure out that shoe thing.
I started wearing my mom’s pearls and rocking hot pink painted nails by age 3. I guess that should’ve been a sign. Ever since I’ve been obsessed with all things fashion – and I’m not about to start apologizing for it. Besides spending my days and nights shopping, or at the very least, thinking about shopping, I‘m almost equally obsessed with cooking great food and baking red velvet cupcakes.
Even though I was born and raised in the ever-sunny climate of L.A., deep down I’m a New York girl at heart. I live for salsa dancing till my feet hurt and am on a never-ending quest for the best burrito and/ or crème bruele (not to be eaten together mind you) and am currently working on expanding my collection of shoes and purses.
Afraid to wear white after Labor Day? Perplexed by which face cream works best for your skin type? Need to know what accessories to wear with your new wrap dress?
It can be overwhelming, we know. So let me figure it out for you!
I'll get back to you personally and may even post your question and my answer on the blog (anonymously of course!)
Stay stylish.
